A call for one volunteer to take part in IVAH HARTENBERG 2012 EVS project from September 2012.
Host organisation : Hartenberg o.s. (
www.hartenberg.cz,
evs.hartenberg@gmail.com)
Hartenberg o.s. is an organisation with rich experiences on the field of
international volunteering. From 2000 in cooperation with Czech branch
of INEX-SDA we have been organising camps for volunteers on base of
"workcamps", "artcamps", "enviro-camps", "archeo-camps" and other
activities. Although these projects have taken part mainly during summer
and their duration have been rather short (2-3 weeks), they have proven
very useful on terms of gaining elementary experiences with voluntary
work.
Adress of host organisation: Høebeny 1, 35709 Josefov , Czech Republic
A brief description of project enviroment: Hartenberg castle is located
in the idyllic and lovely valley of the river Svatava in Sokolovsko
region, seven kilometres away from its confluence into the river Ohøe,
the largest river of the foothills of the Ohøe mountains. The beautiful
landscape contrasts with the name of the castle – Hartenberg means „the
hard rock"in German. Those who visit the castle and familiarise
themselves with its history will understand the reasons for the name.
The castle burst into flames many times, with the last three fires in
the years 1985-1991 gradually destroying the castle, court and finally
the tower. The extent of the damage was enormous;the north part of the
palace collapsed to its foundations, the tower fell into unstable ruins,
all wooden constructions were devastated, and the courtyard buildings
almost disappeared. Hartenberg castle has not recovered from the shock
yet.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:We would like from a volunteer to
become an active member of our "castle community" during the period of
EVS and optionally also to take part in IVAH (International Voluntary
Avademy of Hartenberg). Thanks to wide spectre of our organisation`s
activities and collaboratives, the future voluntary can do various kinds
of services, for example from manual work at the castle reconstruction
(masonry, carpentry, soil digging, gardening) to administrative work in
the office (preparation of publications; with making proposals for
grant opportunities; with maintence of websites). However we expect them
to work mainly on two before-mentioned fields : art & culture and
rural development. We`ll be supposed to give each volunteer an
inceptional training in each activity by experienced employees and after
that we would like him/her to have as large independence as possible.
Of course they`ll always have an opportunity of consulting issues with
employee or supervisor. As host organisation we would like the partition
of activities to be a thing of agreement between us and a volunteer, no
matter whether he/she will more incline to physical or phychical
activities (an ideal conception for us is 50%/50%, but this could be
easily changed). We expect from our future volunteers to work 6
hours/5 days a week, with option of substitutive free-time (in case of
work during weekends f.e.).
An example/proposal of the daily regime:
Monday: 8.00 –wake up; 8.30 – breakfast; 9.00 – 12.00 manual work;
12.00-13.00 lunchbreak; 13.00-15.00 administrative work;15.00-17.00

A brief decription of volunteers profiles:
Concerning future volunteers, we would appreciate to host people willing
to live in a rural area, gender regardless. But, in our opinion and
because of living conditions, men are more suitable for this kind of
service. We would like a future volunteer to be an easy-going person,
prepared to live in very basic conditions and should not expect an
"Italian-style" of night life in the castle area. On the other hand,
conditions here could be quite lively during whole summer: international
workcamps, international theatre festival-workshop and many other
smaller events.
Besides of these facts we are open to all personal characteristics of
future volunteers. It is also possible to visit project area before the
service itself.
Besides of these facts we are willing to cooperate with various kinds of
sending organisations and we are, by usual means, determined to ensure
an open and transparent recruitment process as well as the overall
accessibility of EVS to all young people.
